Social Media

Austyn de Lugo-Liston (b. 1990, San Juan Capistrano, United States) is an educator, artist, and content creator based in Los Angeles. Rooted in the playful celebration of the tawdry, the flamboyant, the vapid, and the carnal, Austyn's work mirrors a deep interest in teaching visual and media literacy.

Receiving a BFA from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 2014 and an MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 2017, he had a residency at the Fundacion Sebastian and a teaching artist fellowship at the Armory Center for the Arts. Austyn's work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, reflecting a diverse and inclusive approach to art-making.

Austyn constructs vivid, engaging compositions that deconstruct and reassemble commonly deemed “unserious” or “superficial” tropes. This transformative process embraces the joy of the unexpected, drawing the viewer in through dynamic forms and provocative color palettes. Austyn's artistic practice, both in form and content, is designed to provoke thought and encourage engagement with the everyday experience. This exploration seeks to push boundaries, evoking contemplation on the relationship between the superficial and the profound, the playful and the serious.
